Always backup your data…

Some of you might remember the story from a couple of years ago where the creators of Project Zomboid had their laptops stolen, causing a major setback in the game’s development at the time.

Well, yesterday the house I live in was burglarized and (among many other things) 2 of my laptops and my main iOS development testing phone were stolen. I haven’t lost any Zombox code because it’s all backed up off-site…but losing the devices (especially the iPhone 4S) still stings. Had I not been careful to keep the game code backup up elsewhere, the ending to this story might have been much worse.

So this is a reminder to everyone: keep your data backed up off-site!

In other news, I’ve transitioned over to using UnityVS as my IDE instead of relying solely on Notepad++ to write code and in the process I’ve converted all Zombox code to C#. So…no more JavaScript! Compile time is now faster, code is cleaner, etc…having worked with it enough I now much prefer C# over JS.

I hope to have some more substantial Zombox updates to post soon…currently working on fixing some annoying AI bugs that are proving very difficult to solve, so I don’t have much to show for that yet.

I can’t believe you assholes didn’t focus on the main part about his post and simply ignored it.

On behalf of these heartless idiots, I just want to say sorry about your loss Tyson, stay positive because something good is gonna happen to you soon (as is always the case after every bad thing that happened).

I also know about the Project Zomboid news as I followed them since the beginning, and I’m glad you’re still keeping this project going instead of like one of the programmers that made a rant about it and gave up and just quit.

I’m a really big fan of your project, have been following it closely the entire time (although I rarely make posts about it) and I can’t wait for it to come out. I’m literally just throwing money at my screen.

Keep up the good work Tyson! Oh and you should probably up your house security in case this happens again.

Couldn’t have said it as well as Ricky 🙂

Tyson I am so sorry for your loss :(. I hope maybe that the news would get more people to look into your game and that when this comes out, it would be defined as one of the most best and most creative games out there on PC and IOS.

And I really hope that the Police catch the bastards that robbed your house and get your stuff back.

Sucks to hear about the break-in and theft. Are you going to get another phone through insurance? If not, I might be able to help you out as I’ve got an old iPhone 4 kicking around that I might be able to lend you; sorry I can’t give up my 4S or my wife’s 5S hehe.

Oh and good job moving to C# for development. JS sucks for programming imho; keep that crap in the browser. Then again, I’m a C/C++/C# developer, so I might be a bit biased. 🙂

Forgot to ask, did you try Find my iPhone to locate the thief?

XD cuando sale el juego? XD quiero jugarlo =3

Damn! Rotten luck. Something about mobile zombie games with blocky graphics must attract theft 😉

Jokes aside, when you finally release this masterpiece you can count on my $5 as well as thousands of others and hopefully you can quickly recoup any losses! Cheers
